Description
Biotechnology involves technological applications that use living organisms, biological systems or their derivatives to make or modify products or processes for specific use. Due to the broad definition, agriculture and brewing can be viewed as examples of early biotechnology that predate the written history. Currently, biotechnology is used for the discovery and production of pharmaceuticals and genetic screening, for the production of useful bulk chemicals and biological products, and in agriculture.
