Description
A blot is a method of transferring proteins, nucleic acids and ribonucleic acids onto a carrier, usually after gel electrophoresis. Then nucleic (Southern blot) and ribonucleic (northern blot) acids can be probed for specific sequences by complimentary strands while protein (western and eastern blots) mixtures can be probed for specific proteins. DNA may also be probed using DNA microarrays – plates with microscopic pockets of complementary DNA.
