Description
Biopolymers are macromolecules that are produced by living organisms. Most common biopolymer is cellulose which is mostly used in paper and textile industry while keratin is also commonly used in the form of animal fibers. Artificially made plastic-like polyesters whose monomers are biomolecules, often obtained directly from biomass, are considered to be biopolymers as well. Research is performed on biomass conversion to suitable monomers and biodegradation of such artificial biopolymers.
